Caterpillar Foundation Invests $75,000 with SAE Foundation

The decline of students enrolling in science and technology programs is threatening the country’s ability to meet future workforce demands and present repercussions that will be felt for generations to come. SAE International’s award-winning A World In Motion® (AWIM) program, provides high-quality science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education programming to students in grades K-8. The Caterpillar Foundation is investing $75,000 with the SAE Foundation for this program.

The Caterpillar Foundation’s investment will help inspire and educate nearly 2,000 elementary and middle school students in Caterpillar communities, teaching them critical math and science concepts in a hands-on, interactive program while exposing them to the possibilities that exist in STEM-related careers. “Quality STEM education not only, teaches students the “hows” and “whys” of the way things work, but also the essential “soft-skills” of solving complex problems, communicating clearly, raising questions, assimilating information and working cooperatively toward common goals. We are grateful to the Caterpillar Foundation for its support of critically important STEM programs such as AWIM,” commented Lori Gatmaitan, Director, SAE Foundation.

Over the last 24 years AWIM has reached over four million students in all 50 states and Canadian provinces and territories. More than 25,000 engineers, scientists and technology professionals have volunteered in partnership with the AWIM program.
