PPG Donates $60,000 to Support AWIM in PPG Communities

PPG and the PPG Foundation have provided $60,000 in grant funding to support SAE’s award-winning A World In Motion® (AWIM) science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) program to nearly 2,000 students throughout suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, and Toronto, Ontario. The program includes training teachers to increase their knowledge of and comfort in teaching science, technology and math, and providing schools with SAE’s classroom-based, hands-on STEM curriculum and materials.

AWIM is a teacher-administered, industry volunteer-assisted program that brings STEM subjects to life in the classroom for students in Kindergarten through Grade 8. Benchmarked to the national standards, the AWIM program incorporates integrated STEM learning experiences through hands-on activities that reinforce classroom STEM learning. Programming supported by PPG and the PPG Foundation will take place during the 2018-2019 schoolyear.

In addition to funding, PPG will provide opportunities for their employees to volunteer in classrooms, providing a direct link for students to STEM industry professionals and further enhancing both the student and teacher experience.

“PPG is proud to support the next generation of innovators thought engaging and thoughtful STEM programming,” said Sue Sloan, executive director, PPG Foundation and corporate social responsibility. “Our employees truly enjoy going out into the community and giving their knowledge and experience back to students, so this program is a perfect fit.”

“The SAE Foundation is grateful for PPG’s support of the A World In Motion® program and is happy to partner with them both in southeast Michigan and in Ontario,” said Lori Gatmaitan, Director, SAE Foundation. “PPG has the vision to see the critical importance of inspiring students early with STEM. Their support will impact hundreds of students in PPG communities and provide critical training for teachers.”
