Aramco Supports SAE’s A World In Motion® Program With A $100,000 Grant

Aramco has awarded a $100,000 grant to the SAE Foundation in support of its A World In Motion® (AWIM) program. The funds will offer more classroom-based STEM programing for nearly 3,000 K-8 students, as well as training for teachers, in Boston, Detroit, Houston, New York, and Washington, D.C.

The partnership provides project-based STEM programming that aligns with educational standards and teaches students critical STEM skills, how to work in teams, and present and defend their ideas. The program concludes with a competition in Houston, giving students the chance to see how others approached the project and their effect on the results.

“We are excited that Aramco has joined as a national partner,” said Lori Gatmaitan, Director, SAE Foundation. “Their support of AWIM reinforces not only their strong commitment to STEM education but also their leadership in helping to ensure that all students have access to critical STEM programming.”

AWIM provides students with the skills needed to succeed in real-world work environments and helps connect their classroom learning with real-life application. During the program, students engage in the Engineering Design Experience, which includes setting goals, building knowledge, designing, building, testing and presenting their findings to an audience of peers and/or teachers.

AWIM also provides professional development opportunities for teachers. This initiative includes providing teachers with the training they need to effectively teach the curriculum, supplying all program materials and supplies to each participating classroom and giving each teacher the opportunity to have a STEM industry volunteer participate in the program.

“Experiencing the subject matter through interactive learning makes it fun and memorable,” said Alma Kombargi, Director, Strategic Relations, Aramco Services Company.  “The company looks for ways to support access to quality STEM learning and further the development of its own industry recognized Aramco iExplore program.”

The partnership with the SAE Foundation extends Aramco’s involvement with the AWIM program.  Aramco engineers, scientists, and lab staff from its Aramco Research Center—Detroit, located in the suburb of Novi, are also members and frequent contributors to the technical program of SAE’s annual World Congress Experience.
